People shouldn't have to struggle like this

Cold, damp countryside homes in a rural Lancashire borough are being offered grants to help keep them warm.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has opened for applications for the payments of up to £4,000 to hard-up households with vulnerable residents to help them fight fuel poverty. Grants are available for the servicing, repair and replacement of boilers, radiators and heating appliances. The Affordable Warmth Lancashire Fund targets low-income households, with ‘vulnerable’ residents – such as the over-65s, under-fives and pregnant women, or those with cardiovascular and respiratory problems, a disability or mental health condition – beat the cold.Up to £4,000 per household is available, for as long as funds last, and applicants need to supply two quotes for the proposed work.

Cllr David Peat, chairman of Ribble Valley Council’s health and housing committee, said: “Improving the health and wellbeing of local people is a key priority for the council and we have worked hard to address this problem over the years. Ribble Valley has a high level of off-grid and single-skin properties, so some people struggle to keep their homes warm during winter.

“We are delighted to offer this much-needed help to low-income households vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home.”READ NEXT:
