Richard Hammond 's wife, Amanda 'Mindy' Hammond, reportedly wants to keep their £7million Bollitree Castle in the divorce settlement. The former Top Gear star, 55, and his wife, 59, announced their split after 28 years together. In a joint statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, they said, 'this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.
Our marriage is coming to an end, but we've had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters. We will always be in each other's lives and are proud of the family we created. We won't be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy.' The couple bought Bollitree Castle in 2008. A source claimed that Richard is 'very upset' about the split and that he tried to rekindle the relationship but to no avail. Richard once described their home to The Times as, 'It's not grand and it isn't really a castle. It's just a house, with some bits of castle nailed to it. It's not a particularly massive house.' The couple's romance began in the 90s when they both worked for the same PR firm in London. Richard wrote about falling in love with Mindy 'in an instant' in his 2007 memoir On the Edge: My Story. They married in 2002 and have two daughters, Isabella, 24, and Willow, 22. They've been through many challenges together, including Richard's 2006 crash on Top Gear, which left him in a coma and with life-threatening injuries. Richard initially didn't recognize Mindy after the crash. Mindy shared with the Telegraph, 'When I corrected him, he responded, 'No, you're not my wife, my wife is French'.
