“I am thrilled to be a part of the JINS family, and I am immensely grateful for the support and trust from both JINS and Suyen Corp.,” Hizon said at the brand’s fifth anniversary celebration at SM Mall of Asia on June 19.There has been controversy in the past of news anchors endorsing products. What’s your view on that?

What were the challenges during your transition from Singapore to the Philippines when you came home? If you stay with the practices that are being taught to you, then you will not really grow as a professional journalist. But if you’re open when you’re young, when you absorb and be a sponge for all these new ideas that a person like myself, an international journalist, would like to impart to you, then you can always be the best version of yourself.

Well, it has always been a dream. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time. Everyone has been asking me: Rico, why don’t you start your own vlog? Why not start your own podcast? But of course I’m full time with CNN Philippines and it is my commitment to deliver quality, responsible journalism to our viewers on a nightly basis. It is the most important thing for me.Everyone has their vlog. Everyone has their podcast.

I’ve learned in my 35 years in broadcast journalism that you should not just focus on one topic. You shouldn’t just be a subject matter expert on one topic. You have to be very flexible in interviewing all kinds of personalities, from business to sports, to entertainment. Are you still up to doing field work, despite the dangers?
