Brian Spencer, who became an internet meme after being struck in the groin during the Southport riots, was present at a vigil for three murdered schoolgirls.
A rioter who went viral after being hit in the crotch with a brick was spotted at the peaceful vigil for the three schoolgirls stabbed to death hours before getting involved in the violent disorder, the ECHO can reveal. Brian Spencer was said to have sunk ten pints and a bottle of rum before heading to St Luke's Road in Southport during the violent disorder which broke out in the town after the fatal stabbing of three girls the day before.
The riots happened the day after the murders of Alice Da Silva Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six , at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class round the corner on Hart Street. Thousands peacefully attended the vigil in the town, with heartbreaking tributes being shared and flowers being laid. A photo shows Spencer, 40, of Lytham Road, Southport, in attendance. Later that day he was hit twice in the face and the head after taunting police officers protecting a local mosque before being hit for a third time in the crotch. Spencer, who admitted violent disorder, also racially-abused a Polish patient at the town's hospital while awaiting treatment for his injuries. Liverpool Crown Court heard today, December 23, how the painter-decorator was at the centre of the riots in the town on July 30. Footage, shared quickly online, showed him swinging his hips and dancing in front of a line of police officers. A previous judge described Spencer's dancing as delivering his 'best Mick Jagger impression.' But as the father-of-four attempted to provoke a reaction, a large brick bounced off a riot shield into his face, while another hit the back of his head. As Spencer walked away, rubbing the back of his head, another block struck him in the groin causing him to double over in agony. Jailing him, Judge Katherine Pierpoint said Spencer hurled wheelie-bins at police cars and was caught on camera 'cheering', 'bouncing around' and 'enjoying the chaos'
