A balloon festival has been compared to a comedy sketch
Visitors have branded an inaugural balloon festival as "atrocious", "comical" and a rip-off - even comparing it to "Potter's Pink Palace" from Phoenix nights.
The festival, which was organised by Richardson's Amusements LTD and involving Exclusive Ballooning, was also slammed as a rip-off, with families complaining of a lack of communication.
A pre-recorded message on the Virgin balloon flight telephone line said: "Hello. This is the flight and weather update for the flight on Saturday, July 13 in the evening. I’m very sorry to say folks that we’ve got a nasty band of rain coming in from the coast and it’s going to be completely enveloping the north east of England."This means that there is no possibility to fly the hot air balloon this evening and there’s going to be no balloons flying from the festival this evening.
A post said: "The heavy rain overnight causing wet ground conditions combined with some forecast potential drizzle during flying time this evening means we don’t expect to be flying this evening. However, the teams on site are confident that the shelter on the launch site will allow us to inflate balloons throughout the afternoon.
