The Prime Minister has said he will drop the high speed line north of Birmingham and invest in local transport projects
Mr Sunak said the plans will include a new Network North that will improve rail links between towns and cities across the Pennines as well as improving roads.
“This means £36bn of investment in the projects that will make a real difference across our nation,” he said. But controversially, Mr Sunak confirmed the scheme will continue to run to Euston in central London, rather than terminating at Old Oak Common in the capital’s western suburbs, but promised to get a grip on the costs of the project.
