'That's why we are committed to the safe introduction of new approved weight-loss drugs into the NHS, as well as improving access to existing drugs for those who meet the eligibility criteria.' Experts said it could be dished out to patients in the same way statins or blood pressure pills are given to millions now. In a major speech earlier this week, Mr Sunak acknowledged the huge role the drug – which is approved as Ozempic and Wegovy – could have.Special soup-and-shake diets will be made available nationwide to combat spiralling levels of type 2 diabetes, the head of the NHS announced yesterday.
The research, which involved more than 17,000 overweight and obese patients, found that taking a once-weekly jab cut the chances of dying or suffering further attacks by a fifth.
