The Prime Minister will attempt to relaunch his premiership in the coming days with a number of key policy announcements and crunch decisions
The Prime Minister faces pressure on multiple fronts and is considering whether to carry out a dramatic U-turn on his promise to ban onshore wind amid a growing rebellion by backbenchers.
He will also seek to shore up his authority by announcing new plans to cut energy usage, and a fresh crackdown on Just Stop Oil protesters – as well as revealing details of the revised Online Safety Bill, legislation to protect children online which has proven hugely divisive among Tory MPs. In parallel, ministers are engaged in last-minute talks designed to avert strikes in the NHS and rail networks.
Free-marketers, backed by Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, have been promoting an amendment which would lift the current ban on building new onshore wind. Over the weekend former Cabinet ministers Alok Sharma and Sir Jake expressed support for the policy.i In a further blow to party discipline, Penny Mordaunt expressed sympathy for housing rebels who want to remove targets for how much each local area has to build from bill.
