Rishi Sunak risks ‘generation of kids hooked on vaping’, says Children’s Commissioner

Ministers will look at restricting vape flavours and descriptions to make them less appealing to children, and increasing the price of vapes

The Government announced on Thursday it will launch a consultation on plans to ban children from ever smoking and measures to wean people off vaping.The Government will also consider making it an offence for anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 to be sold tobacco products, after the Prime Minister

The Local Government Association , which represents 339 councils in England and Wales, also called on the Prime Minister to introduce an outright ban on disposable vapes. Cllr Fothergill said single-use vapes “blight our streets” with litter, pose fire hazards to bin lorries, and continue to fuel soaring youth vaping rates.

It warned earlier this year that there is still a significant lack of evidence about the potential long-term health effects of vaping.
