Pollsters say the Conservatives are in line for an 'extinction level' event.

Rishi Sunak's Tories are facing the loss of every one of their Scottish seats, according to a new Westminster poll. The rout would also see the Conservatives record their worst ever general election result and lead to a massive Labour majority.

It shows Labour with a 19 point lead over the Tories - 45pc to 26pc - which would translate as a 142 majority for Keir Starmer's party. The Conservatives would lose 250 MPs across the UK and Labour would win 468 seats. However, despite the snapshot showing Starmer is on course for Downing Street, the numbers are also good for the SNP. Humza Yousaf's party would hold on to 41 of their seats, which would stall the revival of Scottish Labour.

The First Minister would use such a result to press Starmer on backing a second independence referendum. Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain, said: "This poll shows we are headed for a change election of unprecedented proportions and major swings as the electorate switches support away from the Tories in different directions.
