Rishi Sunak claimed that the asylum backlog is 50% DOWN compared to when Labour were in power. It's actually 777% UP, according to the UK Statistics Authority

is smaller now than it was under Labour, the statistics watchdog has said.

Mr Sunak first made the assertion in response to Labour MP Alison McGovern who had said the backlog is 14 times bigger than when her party left office. However, Sir Robert said that official Home Office statistics show there has “been a net increase in undecided asylum applications of 147,307, not a halving” during the time the Tories have been in power.

“I have engaged with their offices to bring this to their attention and share the UK Statistics Authority’s expectations for the use of official statistics and data in public debate.”
