Purav Gupta, first author on the study, recent high school graduate and current undergraduate student at U of T's Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular ResearchThe parasite T. gondii is far-reaching, infecting an estimated one-third of the global population. It can live in any non-blood cell type, including neurons, forming cysts inside cells. The parasite is transmitted to nearby cells when the infected cell ruptures.
