An RNLI volunteer has been charged over the death of a grandfather whose fishing boat capsized during a rescue operation. The incident occurred in November 2022 near Port William harbour, Wigtownshire. Efforts were already being made to recover the stranded boat when it capsized, resulting in the death of William Murray McCubbin. A 48-year-old volunteer lifeboat crew member has been arrested and charged following a 16-month investigation.

An RNLI spokesman said: 'An RNLI volunteer crew member has been arrested and charged following the death of a man in November 2022.
