A cordon is in place as Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene
A road remains closed after a former social club went up in flames. Emergency services were called to Chesterton Street in Garston at around midnight on Wednesday, November 6. It is understood the fire involved the Woodcutters Social Club which closed earlier this year. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said the back of the building was engulfed by flames. Six fire engines were sent to the scene and people and businesses in the area were told to keep their doors and windows closed.
51am this morning, the main body of fire was extinguished and hot spotting and ventilation took place. The scene was scaled down just after 3am. Firefighters used a nine metre ladder to peel back the roof area and hot spot the affected area. One hose reel jet was used internally to hot spot as crews continued to cut back roof and hotspot externally. At 05.
