A main road on the outskirts of a Nottinghamshire town has been closed due to a reported police incident. Large queues are forming on the A6117 Violet Hill northbound carriageway in Mansfield. Nottinghamshire Police are at the scene of the incident, which was first reported at around 3.30pm on Friday, January 24. Nottingham Travelwise urged motorists to take a different route. It said in a post on X: 'Violet Hill (Northbound) is closed due to an ongoing police incident.
Nottinghamshire Police are on scene. Please take care if travelling through the area. Please look to use alternative routes and avoid the area where possible.' Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: 'A6117 Violet Hill Northbound closed, queueing traffic due to police incident from... The scale of congestion following this afternoon's incident has not budget at all in the last hour. Delays appear to be stretching even further into Mansfield following this afternoon's police incident. Southwell Road West is now experiencing significant congestion, with delays running from Carter Lane up to the road's junction with Oak Tree Lane. From Oak Tree Lane, the area of this afternoon's police incident, congestion is then continuing to stretch up towards Forest Town.Google traffic data currently shows that there are heavy delays stretching from the Oak Tree estate all the way up to the Forest Town Arena in Forest Town.Drivers have been told to avoid the area.
