A senior Coalition frontbencher has hit back at former colleague Ken Wyatt over his latest attack on the Liberal Party’s position on the Voice to Parliament.

Mr Wyatt, a former Liberal indigenous affairs minister, quit the party in April and has since been overtly critical of the Coalition’s stance on the Voice.

But he reserved his most critical commentary for fellow Western Australians Linda Reynolds and Michaelia Cash who he said were “outlandish” in their assessment of the body. But Mr Wyatt’s latest attack has been questioned by fellow Western Australian and shadow defence minister Andrew Hastie. “So it’s a bit of a Road to Damascus conversion for him because he wasn’t advocating for it when he was in the party.”

Australians need to ‘get the facts’ in impassioned Voice debateAustralians need to ‘get the facts’ in impassioned Voice debateSky News host Amanda Stoker says well-known historian Professor Geoffrey Blainey has set the record straight on some of the “factual errors” that underpin the narrative in support of the 'Yes' campaign for the Voice. “It’s … important that, as we go into a campaign for a referendum to insert an Indigenous ‘Voice’ into the constitution, that we get the facts straight,” Ms Stoker said. “It would be wrong to abuse Australians’ genuine care for Aboriginal people by basing it on lies or half-truths. “Conferring a privilege on the basis of race in the present doesn’t remedy a past wrong; it merely perpetrates a new wrong in the present.”
