Customers rave about the 'brilliant sausages'
Lorry drivers, white van men and even a well-to-do local in their Aston Martin swing into a lay-by off the A612 for a visit to Casey's Snack Bar. The roadside food truck serves breakfasts, burgers, cobs, hot drinks and cakes to passers-by - plus a side helping of football banter.
A bacon or sausage cob is priced £2.90, double egg £2.60 or a full breakfast with two sausages, two rashers of bacon, fried egg, mushrooms, beans, tinned tomatoes, and a big soft buttered cob is an unbeatable £5.70. Served in a tray for takeaway, the full breakfast is presented on a plate for those who want to eat at the table. Normally the front of the counter is full of cakes but by 10.30am on Friday they've all sold out.
Between them Reg and Pauline have decades of experience. Reg is a trained chef, who used to serve celebrities in a hotel restaurant. The duo have also worked in outside catering for years. When the constant travelling around the country became too tiring, the Williams settled for a food van closer to home in what Pauline describes as one of the best lay-bys in Notts .
"You don't know what it's going to be like. At the moment there's roadworks up there which has affected us for the last five weeks because people are avoiding this stretch. This is quite a busy road usually. "We've just got nice customers. They're really loyal, they're really nice. I've had some fantastic reviews." The day we visit there's a constant stream of truckers, who have nothing but praise.
