The tour starts with a simple check-in at K2′s offices located off Second Street. Be sure to pet any of the shop dogs lounging around before getting a weather briefing from your pilot — but be prepared for the itinerary to change based on Mother Nature. The variety of flight packages offers different routes, with the Denali Grand Tour taking travelers over Kahiltna Base Camp and between Mount Foraker and Mount Hunter before circling around Denali. If the weather is just right, the pilot will even make a quick stop on a glacier.
After takeoff from the Talkeetna Airport, it’s only a matter of minutes before flightseekers find themselves surrounded by the Alaska Range. While you weave through the mountain passes — over glaciers and next to steep rocky walls — you’ll want to take a thousand photos, but don’t forget to simply take it in.
A pilot will guide your tour throughout the flight over aviation headsets, ensuring you know what you’re looking at out each window, and passengers are encouraged to ask questions at any time, though many are left speechless by the sheer beauty that is Alaska from the sky.
