Rob Lowe is expressing his enthusiastic support for long-time friend Demi Moore as she continues to garner accolades for her critically acclaimed performance in The Substance . After securing a Critics Choice Award last night and her first Golden Globe last month, the 62-year-old actress is considered the frontrunner to win the Best Actress Oscar next week for her portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle.
During her acceptance speech on Friday, Moore expressed the overwhelming nature of her recent success, stating, 'I can’t tell you when I started this journey on this film, I could never imagine being here. It's so far beyond what I hoped for.' Lowe, who starred alongside Moore in the films St. Elmo's Fire and About Last Night, couldn't contain his admiration for her during a recent interview with People. 'It's really fun,' the 9-1-1: Lone Star actor shared. 'She really deserves it. She's one of the rare things: she's both a great actress and a true star.' Lowe has been a vocal supporter of Moore's journey, even introducing her at a special screening of The Substance in December. Moore is the second of Lowe's longtime friends to receive recognition for their contributions to cinema. Last year, Lowe celebrated with his eighth-grade high school buddy, Robert Downey Jr., who was nominated for and won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer.
