The Buddies only managed to pick up two points from three league meetings with St Johnstone last season.
Makes no bones about it, Stephen Robinson is hell-bent on steering his Buddies to another top-six spot this season.
But while Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen all have undoubtedly bigger financial clout, it’s the Paisley Saints who continue to punch well above their weight. Robinson believes points dropped against those clubs cost them a coveted European adventure this season. “The two away results at Kilmarnock and Livingston were really good results when you consider how hard they make it for teams at those venues. But we only took two points from St Johnstone last season from a potential nine.
While St Johnstone did manage to get the better of St Mirren last season domestically, the Buddies remain unbeaten in seven home league games against St Johnstone – a run stretching almost five years. He said: “We’re looking forward to this weekend. There was nothing we could do about the storm. Logistically it was a nightmare for us but these things happen. We came back in and trained really hard this week.
