They found a 3,300-year-old ship resting 1.1 miles below the Mediterranean’s surface.
Before this discovery, scholars believed that sailors mostly stayed near the coast during the late Bronze Age, where they could see land. This allowed them to navigate between ports using landmarks they could see.
