An Alaskan agency to test a robotic dog disguised as coyote or fox to deter wildlife at its second-largest airport.

Alaska's DOT plans to disguise the device as a coyote or fox to deter migratory birds and other wildlife at the state's second-largest airport. An Alaskan government agency has initiated trials of a robotic dog to deter wildlife at the country’s second-largest airport. Cleverly disguised as a coyote or fox, the robot dog has been assigned the task of keeping wild animals at bay from the Fairbanks airport.posted on its social media page.

A Federal Aviation Administration database shows 92 animal hits close to airports in Alaska last year, with 10 incidents occurring in Fairbanks. After regulators rejected a plan to utilize flying drones spraying a repellent that included grape juice, the notion of using a robot emerged.

The robot can assume the appearance of a fox or a coyote by swapping out its detached panels. “The only goal of this is to act as a predator and allow us to invoke that response in wildlife without having to use other means,” said Marlow to Canadian legislators last week.
