Massachusetts state police say a robotic dog helped avert a tragedy after being deployed at a Barnstable home where police were responding to an armed individual barricaded in a home. The dog named Roscoe was part of the state’s bomb squad and was shot several times and disabled during the situation on March 6.
This image provided by Massachusetts State Police shows a robotic dog named Roscoe, which is part of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, was shot multiple times after it was sent into a Barnstable house to locate a person who had barricaded themselves inside.
Controlled remotely by state troopers, it first checked the two main floors before finding someone in the basement. The person, armed with a rifle, twice knocked over the robotic dog before shooting it three times and disabling its communication.
