Robust manager or simply a bully? Trust me, staff always know the difference 💬 hannahfearn via ipaperviews
Justice Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab leaves No 10 in January
An investigation into the Deputy Prime Minister’s conduct may be ongoing but the longer Rishi Sunak holds out before inevitably suspending Raab for the embarrassment this has caused, the more venal he will look. In 20 years as a journalist I have only ever worked in a “high-pressure environment”. In that time I have witnessed many bullies, but also worked for a handful of remarkably skilled managers and leaders of people. The difference between them is palpable; you can mark out Raab’s fellow travellers “at the top end of the robustness scales” immediately. Bullying does not happen because a manager has been a little firm when giving feedback. There is no thin line between the two.
