Tigers beat Guards 1-0
CLEVELAND, Ohio - A game that started as a pitchers duel ended up being decided by a shortstop. The Guardians fell in Detroit in Game 1 of their series 1-0.
Keider Montero and Gavin Williams each threw well, neither allowing a run before turning the game over to the bullpens.Williams navigated 5.1 frames, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five. It went to the bullpens, and in the 8th inning Scott Barlow got into some trouble he nearly worked out of. With runners at the corners and one out, Barlow induced a double-play ball off the bat of Mark Canha.Brayan Rocchio, normally excellent in the field, had the ball tick off the webbing of his glove and roll past him, allowing Jake Rogers to score what proved to be the game-winning run. Had Rocchio fielded it cleanly it would have likely been an inning-ending double play.
