Local advocates responded after the historic SCOTUS ruling on Thursday that secured access to a commonly used abortion pill.

Anti-abortion protestors demonstrate outside the Supreme Court on Thursday, June 13, 2024, in Washington. The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously preserved access to a medication that was used in nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. last year, in the court's first abortion decision since conservative justices overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago. Three states are suing the FDA , challenging access to the pill Mifepristone and contending that it interferes with their state laws.

The Supreme Court unanimously rejected a legal challenge to the F-D-A's regulation around Mifepristone, after opponents cited legal and ideological objections to the drug's use.Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that the plaintiff lacked legal standing to bring suit and that it failed to demonstrate that the F-D-A's relaxed regulatory requirements would likely cause a person to suffer an injury.

"I feel sorry for these women who in most cases are not being told of the risks they are taking and who may be horrified when it happens to them," said LeBlanc. "It leaves them vulnerable at risk to all sorts of emotional and physical complications that can arise. It doesn’t always but any time you take a risk, it can happen to you."
