Dave Mason's bona fide rock and roll legend includes membership (and Rock Hall induction) in Traffic and a robust solo career, as well as connections to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and many more.
The British-born singer, songwriter and guitarist has a formidable career as a solo artist, of course -- 54 years running, including the late ‘70s hits “We Just Disagree” and “Let It Go, Let It Flow.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason will publish "Only You Know and I Know," a memoir, in September “Y’know, I was just a kid from Worcester, England, who got lucky and loved making music. I’ve had my ups and downs and all the rest of it, like everybody’s life has, and that’s basically the essence of the book pretty much. When you amass it all together, you sort of stop and go, ‘Oh my, did I do all that? . Otherwise I don’t really think about it.
“To, to me it was making music. That’s what I’ve done all my life,” Mason says. “I knew it was good, but all the rest of it is what people place on it who are standing on the outside of it. It’s how they perceive it all. For me, what I do is a craft. Art is a very small part of it. It’s just a craft and it’s just a passion and it’s what I chose to do, and I’ve followed it and fortunately got to do some things that evidently are significant. But otherwise it’s just what I do.
“Blues, musically, guitar-wise, waves itself into pretty much everything I do,” he explains. “We all had access to it in England from, like, Armed Forces Radio, Radio Luxemburg, and we loved it. The British Invasion is basically an American story -- all we did is learn everything that was created there and sold it back to you, turn you on to your own music.
