Teenage all-rounder Rocky Flintoff has been selected for the England Lions tour of Australia, following in the footsteps of his famous father, Andrew Flintoff.
Rocky Flintoff has been included in the England Lions squad for next month’s tour of Australia. The team is coached by the 16-year-old’s father Andrew, with Flintoff junior called up again following his late inclusion in the Lions squad during their training camp in South Africa earlier this month. The all-rounder made his debut for Lancashire during the summer and has been a consistent performer for the England Young Lions.
The 16-player squad also includes five players – Shoaib Bashir, Pat Brown, Tom Hartley, Josh Tongue and John Turner – who have represented England at the senior level. The Lions will play two four-day matches against a Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane followed by a first-class Test against Australia A in Sydney. Last month Alex Stewart believed Rocky Flintoff, Archie Vaughan and Josh de Caires have the talent to cope with the expectation that will come from having fathers who once captained England, the Mirror reports. All three have been tipped for great things as they make their way in the county game with Lancashire, Somerset and Middlesex respectively. Stewart knows the kind of journey they are currently on. His dad, Micky, played eight Tests for England before giving his son his Surrey debut at the age of 17 and then working as coach of the national team when Alec was establishing himself as one of the most destructive opening batsmen in the game. He said: 'Forget the surname and just look at the talent - and these lads have that in abundance. There will obviously be some extra interest in Rocky, Archie and Josh because they have high-profile fathers and there is more scrutiny than ever during this era of social media. 'But I’ve always been a believer that talent will come through. These three lads all have a very high ceiling. 'Freddie recently showed me a picture of me with Rocky when he was about three.
