Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers defended left-back Greg Taylor after fans chanted the name of Kieran Tierney during a match. Rodgers criticized the fans for disrespecting Taylor, who had bled for the club, and for chanting another player's name who was not on the field.
Upset Greg Taylor made a beeline straight for the Celtic dressing room before Brendan Rodgers launched an impassioned defence of the looming free agent. Mail Sportrevealed on Saturday night the left-back wants to stay in Glasgow's east end, however, love was in short supply for the Scotland international on Sunday.
He was received a sore one to the coupon before he heard home fans chant the name of Kieran Tierney – the hometown hero on the verge of returning to Parkhead. Brendan Rodgers didn't like it, in fact, he was seriously peeved as he called out fans for panicking over backwards passes and the decision to chant the name of a player who wasn't in the team. And now Parkhead punters reckon Taylor's call to forego the traditional lap around the pitch was a trigger behind the boss' searing takedown. The Irishman wanted to unload and his impassioned defence of Taylor was from the heart. Rodgers said: “There was a few things that I may have overheard at the end there. That’s a total lack of respect. Of course there is. Greg Taylor, he's been absolutely amazing at this club. How does he feel? "He nearly breaks his nose, bleeding for the club, for a cause. It's not very respectful. You sing for another player, no matter what Kieran’s history is. I don't like that. There's lots of speculation, lots of names, but I wouldn't add anything to it.”
