Nagelsmann – who had recently lost his job as Bayern boss – immediately emerged as the Blues’ number-one target. Any chance Lampard had of becoming permanent manager is surely gone, meaning rumours of who will be Potter’s long-term replacement have accelerated this week. It is believed that Enrique is no longer in the running after the Chelsea hierarchy were put off by his demands.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Julian Nagelsmann has now withdrawn from the race to become the new Chelsea head coach — it looks like it’s his final decision.
