If you're heading away for Valentine's Day instead, then there's several walks it recommends throughout the UK. Another garden to visit in the north is Sizergh in Cumbria, a charming medieval house with gardens that have been developed over the course of 800 years. Wander through the stumpery and orchard, home to four collections of hardy ferns, plus the Dutch garden and kitchen garden.
