De Boer is fully aboard the Clement hype train and believes it's about time his old team were challenging consistently.
Philippe Clement has his team slight favourites to win the title having looked down and out of it when Michael Beale was sacked in October. They've only twice in the league since he came in - Clement's first derby against Celtic and Motherwell at Ibrox recently - and with the Viaplay Cup in the bag, volume is beginning to ramp up on talk of a Treble.
Celtic have won 11 of the last 12 league titles with Steven Gerrard's 2021 success the only time Rangers have been crowned champions since their return to the top flight. But there is a growing feeling that Clement could be the man to burst that bubble and restore Rangers to a consistently competitive title challenger, where Beale and Gio van Bronckhorst before him could not.
De Boer's been there and done it, winning the Treble with Gers in 2003, and he reckons Clement could be the man to take them one step further. And he believes that, if he could, it would be "about time". He said on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast: "Philippe is doing great, but the previous managers had their success like Gio reaching the Final. Before that, Steven Gerrard also did really well. For me, everybody has played a part of the success where the club are standing now. Philippe is doing great, they were unlucky against Benfica but I still think they can be proud.
"And now they're fighting for the league title when previously Celtic were walking away with it at this stage of the season. Now Rangers are 100 per cent fully involved in it which is great. I think every Rangers supporter wants their team to be fighting for the Championship and it's about time that Rangers are crowned champions again."
