Holland's international fixtures could provide the perfect opportunity for Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo to refind his form
Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season, particular at the top end of the field.
Fast forward to August, Gakpo has arguably been a victim of Liverpool's transfer business and hesitancy to proactively sign midfielders. "When we decided that everybody can get their own number on their back, then a two was not a two anymore and a six wasn’t a six anymore.Gakpo showed flashes from deep in Liverpool's attacking transitions as the Reds bid to complement all four of their attackers into one starting 11. However, further back in the line-up has proved to be difficult for the Holland international in a makeshift trio as part of the new system.
The trip to St James' Park to face Newcastle United saw the 24-year-old return further forward in the central position. It would be another difficult afternoon, with mitigating circumstances, after Liverpool fell behind before Virgil van Dijk was shown a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
