Wayne Rooney reveals how Man United couldn't adjust to 'godfather' Sir Alex Ferguson departure MUFC
Wayne Rooney says Manchester United went about replacing ‘godfather’ Sir Alex Ferguson the wrong way – and details the reasons why he believes it hasn’t worked since the legendary boss left.
“He was like the godfather of the club, not just in terms of the players but the staff, the academy – he was on top of everything,” Rooney said. “I think David signed a six-year deal and they were trying to give him that time to do it but it didn’t work out.
Since Moyes was sacked, four managers have tried and failed to get the best out of the Red Devils, with Ralf Rangnick the current boss struggling at Old Trafford.
