McIlroy started the day seven shots back and was left to rue a poor second round on Friday when he carded a two over-par round of 72
Rory McIlroy’s stunning bogey-free final round of 64 wasn’t enough to claim a third RBC Canadian Open title as Scotland’s Robert MacIntye hung on to earn a first PGA tour win at Hamilton.
However, a late charge on Sunday saw the Holywood native finish in a tee for fourth place with playing partner Tom Kim at 13 under-par for the tournament, three behind MacIntyre, who finished one stroke ahead of Ben Griffin and two clear of Victor Perez. “Bob’s a good friend of mine, we were Ryder Cup teammates and it would be really good to see him get the job done,” said McIlroy before MacIntyre had completed his final round. "You know, travelling around America, it's a different world. Some people adapt a little quicker than others. Everyone has to try to find their right rhythm. It looks like Bob's still figuring that out. It would be great to see him hang on and get that first PGA tour win.”
