If Rodgers did want to join the Jets, they then would have to negotiate a trade with the Packers. It’s believed that the Jets don’t want to pay all of the $59.46 million in guaranteed money owed to Rodgers this year. Convincing the Packers to eat some of that money would require greater draft compensation in return — likely, at least, the Jets’ first-round pick.
The Jets would seem to appeal to Rodgers with their core of young talent, elite defense and an offensive coordinator who is a close friend of the quarterback. But that doesn’t guarantee Rodgers is interested in changing teams.What if Rodgers opts to retire, return to the Packers or says “no thanks” to the Jets?
