He then announced to DeRosa and Co., “I’ll be in Group 1 by the time we get to Miami,” site of the WBC’s final round.

He wasn’t as sure about Anderson, whose emotional style in a game that still fusses over unwritten rules is not always well-received.At Team USA’s first workout, DeRosa quickly sensed Anderson brought positive energy, a burning desire to win. He told Anderson, “I need the bat flips,” words the shortstop never heard from any of his previous managers. Playing Anderson at second Monday night amounted to another show of confidence by DeRosa, only in a different form.
