Rosslyn Chapel in Roslin, Midlothian, is known for its intricate carvings and now new lighting is helping to highlight the stone artwork in the Lady Chapel.
Rosslyn Chapel, the historic Midlothian chapel known for its elaborate stone carvings and feature in The Da Vinci Code, has been cast in a new light. The installation of new lighting in the Lady Chapel now allows visitors to appreciate the intricate artwork more clearly.
Ian Gardner, director of Rosslyn Chapel Trust, expressed his enthusiasm about the improvements: "The Lady Chapel is the most ornately carved part of the building and the refurbished lighting really does highlight some of the carvings that have been in shadow up to now."Dating back to 1446, the chapel is celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship and the sheer volume of stone carvings.
Mr Gardner remarked, "We’ve had very favourable comments from visitors since the lighting was refurbished. It’s helping visitors appreciate the detail." Regular worship services are still held at the chapel, which saw a significant increase in visitors following its inclusion in Dan Brown's 2003 bestseller The Da Vinci Code and the subsequent film adaptation starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou.
