A romantic comeback soured badly at Selhurst Park – so how did everything go so horribly wrong?
This was not how it was supposed to end for Roy Hodgson and . The summer recruitment underlined that, with just one outfield player arriving for a significant fee – , a 19-year-old from Brazil who has scarcely featured despite being front and centre in branding by the club’s marketing department. That lack of game time, too, has been a source of contention. Matheus Franca has had few first-team opportunities Publicly, Hodgson said he “did not regret being here”, but in private he must have questioned why he returned.
