The links with Gareth Southgate and the Man Utd job intensified this week and legend Roy Keane has given his verdict.
Roy Keane has admitted he wasn't surprised to see Gareth Southgate be heavily linked with replacing Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager this week - but a fellow pundit has called it 'out of order'.
The overwhelming majority of United fans have not responded positively to links with Southgate and many were shocked to see him emerge as a potential front-runner. However, Keane wasn't surprised to see the links intensify, as he explained on Stick to Football, produced by Sky Bet: “I could see that happening .
Gary Neville shared his verdict and said: “I never saw Gareth Southgate as a Manchester United manager, psychologically, I never saw that. I can see it now, now Dan Ashworth has come in. "And Gareth will need to sort his future out, to get a club for potentially the start of next season. So, I think if it’s done maturely, I can see how it would be brought forward in terms of Gareth.
“When you look at Manchester United’s game against Liverpool in the FA Cup, so they’ve got a chance to maybe win the FA Cup, they’re going to have to go some to get into the top four. But for them to be talking about it now – it’s a bit off-key, bringing up Gareth now like that," he said.
