New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is yet to even begin his role at the club but is already facing an uphill struggle if he's to make any signings in the January transfer window
Incoming head coach Ruben Amorim is already facing a harsh reality regarding his first transfer window at Manchester United.
On top of that, The Athletic cited the costs of changing manager mid-season; Ten Hag was awarded around £15m on his way out of the exit, while United forked out just shy of £10m to execute Amorim's release from Sporting CP. In addition, the Premier League giants have also had to open the cheque book to recruit Amorim's coaching staff, reportedly to the tune of £4m.
Amorim, 39, may have been all too aware he'd be living on a shoestring budget in the short term following his arrival in England. And although fresh investment is likely to follow next summer, it may mean a long season lies ahead as he attempts to make the most of the current squad. The Red Devils occupy a rare space in the football landscape as one of those clubs whose revenue in other areas can often accommodate losses in the transfer market. However, the fact United haven't managed to generate a bigger sale than Ronaldo in 15 years highlights their struggles to develop and improve players in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
