Ruben Amorim's former club Sporting CP hadn't lost a league game at home in over a year
Ruben Amorim 's nightmare has come true after Sporting Clube de Portugal fell to their first defeat in over a year in Liga Portugal on Saturday night.
Sporting had won all 11 of their league games before Saturday, equalling a record dating back to the 1990/91 season. They hadn't lost a league game since the 2-1 defeat to rivals Benfica on the road in November last year.READ MORE: Man United 'target' set for new contract offer as Premier League rival confirm blow
Prior to joining Manchester United, Amorim was reluctant to leave the Lions before the end of the season when the Reds came calling to avoid any disturbance in the squad. "I never argued about anything with the president regarding the negotiations," Amorim said at the time. "I have to do what Sporting CP decide. I prefer it this way, as everyone gets a chance to do things cleanly and I don't leave the players hanging. That was a big concern. So it gives us a window to tie up everything, and I know this team better than anyone to prepare them for both games. They are very important games, especially against SC Braga."
