Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been barred from practicing law in New York. The decision was handed down by the Appellate Division, First Department.Giuliani was disbarred for repeatedly lying during Donald Trump's 2020 presidential election campaign, with a panel of judges saying in a court filing that he 'communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large.
Giuliani declared bankruptcy in December 2023 after a jury awarded $148 million to two Georgia election workers, mother and daughter Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who sued him for defamation after he accused them of committing election fraud while counting ballots in Fulton County in 2020.On June 26, Newsweek reported that Giuliani is accepting payments through a Missouri bank account while credits seek payment through a New York bankruptcy court.
