Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford was heavily linked with a move to Wrexham during the January transfer window, but the rumours have been dismissed by Leeds commentator Bryn Law. While acknowledging the speculation, Law believes Bamford's move to Wrexham was never a real possibility.

Questions have been raised about rumors linking Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford with a move to Wrexham . The Welsh side's Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, splashed the cash in the January transfer window to the tune of an estimated £2.5m. Wrexham 's signings included the club's record-breaking arrival of Reading's top scorer, Sam Smith, for a reported fee of £2m to bolster their League One promotion prospects.

Former Premier League forward Jay Rodriguez also joined Phil Parkinson's squad from Leeds' Championship promotion rivals Burnley after claims he was offered a weekly financial package worth £15,000. Hull City winger Ryan Longman was another who made his way to Wrexham last month for a sum said to be in the region of £500,000. Leeds striker Bamford did not sign with Wrexham despite consistently being linked with them during January. However, Whites commentator Bryn Law has cast doubt on the accuracy of these rumors. Law, who covers matches for Leeds' internal media channel, was recently asked if he thought the 31-year-old's exit was ever likely. While the former Sky Sports presented expressed his scepticism, he suggested on the Welsh Beast Sports podcast that reports of Wrexham's interest in another Leeds striker might have been more credible. He said: 'Nobody has told me anything, but if I was asked on instinct, I don't think it (signing Bamford) was a possibility. It didn't sound right to me and I don't think that would have happened. I think there might have been some interest in Joe Gelhardt. 'The problem was that Patrick got injured in the midst of any speculation that was flying around anyway so that was the end of that and he's still injured. I got asked every time I went to Elland Road, but I didn't ever have a sense it was going to happen.'Bamford, who earned his sole England cap in 2021, has been used sparingly at Leeds this season, drawing a blank in all ten of his substitute outings before a hamstring injury picked up in January, sidelining him for the past five weeks. Gelhardt, in the meantime, clinched a loan move to Hull City last month and has notched one goal in four outings for the Tigers since. Despite the blow of Bamford's recent injury woes, Daniel Farke is adamant in not giving up on him, given the year-plus remaining on his contract. The Leeds boss holds Bamford in high regard, a point he reinforced during a press conference on Thursday. The German manager said: 'You need a bit of luck in the final stages in that players are not injured. Patrick Bamford was not available last year, having him at the end of the season would have been different and same for Pascal Struijk.' He added: 'To have both unavailable was costly. We hope for better luck this season and that key players are fit and on fire.
