Southampton manager Russell Martin says his side will need to 'embrace the challenge' of playing his style of football in the Premier League.
Southampton head coach Russell Martin has told his Saints side they will need to "embrace the challenge" of playing his style of football in the Premier League next season.Martin has come under scrutiny for his possession-based mantra during stages of the Championship season, especially when Saints started the campaign slowly."But it is a vehicle for us to give ourselves the best opportunity to show the best version of ourselves, I really believe that.
Martin will be a Premier League boss for the first time next season - he was managing MK Dons in League One as recently as the 2019-20 campaign. Tessem, BBC Radio Solent's expert summariser covering Southampton, scored 16 goals in 130 appearances for Southampton between 1999 and 2004."He has brought a new style of football and formation to Southampton which the players have learned and got better at as the season has gone on.However, Tessem feels that slight adjustments to Martin's style will be needed come next season."Martin will need to be a bit smarter with his style next season," Tessem added.
"They can see what players will fit in next season, they will need to consider if the current players are good enough and where the squad can be added to that makes Saints even better."
