Vladimir Putin is trying to justify a protracted contracted by saying Ukrainians are grateful for Russia's protection, a leading US thinktank has said. Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry has claimed to have destroyed three Ukrainian drones over two border regions.
War may break out this week in another region with significant Russian interests, according to Armenia's prime minister.Nikol Pashinyan has claimed Azerbaijan will wage war again if he does not compromise with Baku on returning some strategic territories controlled by Armenia since the early 1990s.According to TASS news agency, Mr Pashinyan told residents in a border area: 'Now we can leave here, let's go and tell that no, we are not going to do anything.
Baku has said the return of its lands is a necessary precondition for a peace deal to end three decades of conflict over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which Azerbaijan retook in an offensive last September.The two sides have said they want to sign a formal peace treaty, but talks have become bogged down in issues including demarcation of the countries' 1,000km border, which is closed and heavily militarised.
