Archie Durie, 62, has been homeless for over two months and is forced to sleep on a blow-up mattress in his boxing ring since he was evicted.
An award-winning Rutherglen boxing coach has battered South Lanarkshire Council after being made homeless and having to sleep in his ring.
He said: “In the space of a year, my gym on Crawfurd Road had its rent increased from £4,100 to £8,400 and I was put out two weeks before Christmas.“It was either give up the boxing club or not pay my house rent. I knew I would be evicted and I was put out.Whilst in the homeless shelter, Archie was presented with the sportscotland Services to Sport Award at the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council Awards by Councillors Robert Brown, Margaret Cowie and Andrea Cowan.
“I have no heating or cleaning or eating facilities. I wake up every morning to go to Eastfield Swimming Baths for a shower. That has been eight weeks now. It is degrading. “They suspended my applications for six months. Not only have SLC put me out of my house, but they are stopping me from getting another.
