The SNP's MSP for Rutherglen and Cambuslang East councillor have blasted the council over the decision.

Rutherglen's MSP has blasted South Lanarkshire Council over its decision to change the qualifying distance for school transport.

Local children, young people and their families have been protesting against the plans for several months. Ms Haughey said: “Children, young people, and their parents and carers have been badly let down by this Labour/Liberal Democrat administration. Councillor Loudon continued: “The consultation results were overwhelming – our communities do not want these unsafe and unworkable cuts.

“Without fair funding from the SNP Government, maintaining the status quo would mean cutting the equivalent of 100 school support assistants from South Lanarkshire schools. “The financial position the Council is in is not of its making. It is a direct consequence of the brutal budgets Clare Haughey and other SNP MSPs have repeatedly voted to impose on our communities.
