A brace from Joel Piroe and an effort from Georginio Rutter gave Leeds United a 3-0 win at The Den
Leeds United produced a clinical and ruthless performance at The Den to beat Millwall 3-0 and move into the top half of the Championship table.Rutter came in for heaps of criticism last time out. He spurned glorious chances in a frustrating performance at Elland Road, but he made up for it at The Den with a ruthless attacking display.
The Frenchman made Leeds’ first goal with a piece of incisive play through the middle of the park, driving forward into space before combining with Wilfried Gnonto to feed Joel Piroe, who did the rest. He looked a constant threat on the ball and had Millwall wary of his pace on the break. Meslier was playing behind a backline that deserves credit, too. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk had their moments early on as Millwall looked to land an early blow but the pair are fostering a partnership that looks to have legs and managed to keep the likes of Tom Bradshaw and Kevin Nisbet quiet for most of the contest. The perfect man to step off the bench late on when the game was stretched and he took the contest away from the home side.
Shackleton has started the season well but with Farke’s squad now settled, it’s hard to see a way in which he realistically competes for a starting spot in his preferred position moving forward.
