Ryan Giggs “lost control and headbutted” his former girlfriend after subjecting her to a “litany of psychological and physical abuse”, a court heard today.
Opening the case, prosecutor Peter Wright QC told the court: “This was a private life that involved a litany of abuse, both physical and psychological, of a woman he professed to love. The court heard how the couple’s on-off relationship began in 2013 after Ms Greville, then employed by a public relations firm, provided services to some of his businesses.
The prosecutor continued: “She was working for his company, a factor you may consider and we say he used to his advantage over a woman who was vulnerable in that circumstance that had been created. The relationship continued to be turbulent and fractured.” Mr Wright said: “She knew that the defendant had once again been cheating on her. The defendant’s behaviour towards her led to her making that decision and make an early departure. In advance of her return home she informed her sister by text message of her plan.As Ms Greville tried to leave Giggs’ home, he returned and “began arguing with her and trying to stop her leaving”, the prosecutor said.
